Founders' Ceremony

At 3:00 pm The Founders’ Ceremony will begin at the Don Francisco Cuervo y Valdes statue at the intersection of Mountain Roa. and Rio Grande Boulevard, followed by the Founders' Procession to Old Town Plaza.

Every April since 1988, the founding of Albuquerque has been celebrated by reflecting the historic eras: Native American, Spanish, Mexican, Territorial and Statehood. The celebration commemorates a unique and historic event: the birth of our city. The event honors Governor Cuervo y Valdés for his vision, and honors the first community. It also pays tribute to every generation that has contributed to the growth and prosperity of this enchanted city that was named the Villa de Alburquerque in 1706. The founding of Albuquerque is a success story worth celebrating.

Event Parking and Transportation

Streets throughout Old Town will close to traffic to prepare for Albuquerque's birthday celebration. Please plan accordingly.

• Free parking is available during the event at the parking lot on the corner of 18th Street and Bellamah Avenue. 
• Free shuttles, provided by Airport Parking, will be available to event-goers throughout the event. Shuttle pick-ups and drop-offs will be at the free parking lot on 18th St. and Bellamah Ave. and at the Old Town entrance near the Albuquerque Museum.
• Street parking is available in the surrounding area, please obey all regular parking laws.
• City bus service will running on the normal schedule. 

Fiestas de Albuquerque is a rain or shine event. Well behaved pets on a leash are welcome.
