Painting the New West

Contemporary artist Carla Forrest paints the New West in her spectral luminescent works, inspired by direct observation of nature and life. Honored as a Local Treasure by the Albuquerque Arts Business Association, Carla obtained her Bachelor in studio art from State University of New York and Master of Science in Teaching Visual Arts from Rochester Institute of Technology. She obtained her Bachelor in studio art from State University of New York and Master of Science in Teaching Visual Arts from Rochester Institute of Technology. “I approach painting as an observer of the soul, enlightening the viewer about the presence, wonder, and dignity of nature and life. I want the viewer to value place and person in a space of spirit and heart and bring this illumination into their personal environments.”

About this Workshop

This two-day art workshop is for all levels of artists to advance their palette knife and alla prima painting skills. Carla will tailor her approach to help you simplify and produce powerful paintings. She will teach modern color theory, discuss tools and materials, and demonstrate layering and mark-making techniques to enhance dimension and texture in oil paintings. Composition, color mixing, and painting techniques will be covered. The workshop will be followed by a “show-and-tell” happy hour.

The workshop is limited to 10 students. The workshop fee is $195 plus NM GRT.
